Home playoff game on the line for Cols, Henderson

It will be a battle of Colonels tonight when Henderson County invades the Stadium of Champions to take on Christian County in an important Class 6-A, District 1 football game.

Both teams are 1-1 in district play and the winner will earn a home game in the first round of the playoffs next month.

Christian County is coming off a 70-32 loss last week to top seed McCracken County. Henderson County defeated Daviess County 35-7.

Christian County coach Ethan Atchley said to have success against the northermost Colonels, his team has to find a way to cut down on mistakes.

Henderson County lost starting quarterback Trajdon Davis to an injury several weeks ago, but Atchley said the senior who has run for 1,496 career yards could be back in the lineup tonight. If he isn’t, sophomore quarterback Brody Belt, who threw for 207 yards last week against Daviess County will be leading the Henderson offense.

Henderson relies heavily on running back Anthony Burruss, who is 12th all-time on the school’s rushing list with 2,184 yards.

Meanwhile, Christian County hopes to continue to get good play from its offense, led by quarterback Jaiden Williams, who threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns against McCracken. Two of his scoring passes went to Zyon Wharton.

The Colonels’ defense will need to tighten up this week, as Henderson has put up 92 points in the last two games.

This is the 51st meeting between the two programs with Henderson leading 33-17. The northern Colonels defeated Christian County 64-32 last year in Henderson.

Tonight’s game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff and airtime is 6:30 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
