The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers saw their 2024 high school volleyball season come to a close Monday night in the first round of the District 8 tournament at University Heights Academy.
Fort Campbell closed out Hoptown 3-0 and will advance to play top seed Christian County at 5:30 p.m. today at UHA.
The two teams traded the lead seven times before Fort Campbell went on a 7-1 lead to end the first set, winning 25-20.
The Lady Falcons jumped out to a 6-1 advantage in the second set and led by as much as 17-5 before claiming a 25-15 win.
In the third set, the teams were tied seven times before a 9-1 spurt by Fort Campbell pushed its lead to 21-13. Hopkinsville was able to battle back to within 24-22 but the Lady Falcons were able to close out the Lady Tigers 25-22.
Madysen Taggart had five kills, two blocks, three kills, and two aces to lead Hopkinsville, which finished the year 2-26.
Lainey Stewart had a kill and two aces and Alayna King provided five assists and a dig. Kyleigh Weber had four assists and seven digs. Danaja Wheeler had six digs and Maliah Miller had three kills and a block.
The Lady Falcons improved to 8-10 on the season.
In tonight’s other semifinal matchup, No. 2 seed Heritage Christian Academy will take on No. 3 UHA at 7 p.m.
Tonight’s winners advance to Thursday night’s championship match, which will be played at 6 p.m. Both teams advance to next week’s Region 2 tournament at Hopkinsville High School.
