Community advocate, Anderson “Jimmy” Hightower, passes away

The community is feeling the loss of one of Hopkinsville’s greats, as Anderson “Jimmy” Hightower passed away recently at the age of 89.

Hightower was well-known and very active in the community, a longtime member of the Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club and Pioneers, Inc. During his time with those groups, he served innumerous Thanksgiving meals to those in need in the community, and help support causes through Kiwanis that benefited children and families in need throughout the year.

Before that, Hightower retired from the U.S. military at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2.

In a message to Kiwanis, President Nikki Chambers expressed her grief at Hightower’s passing, saying he lived life to the fullest with energy and passion.

Visitation for Hightower will take place Friday at First Street Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Gamble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
