Annual Ham Festival set to take over downtown Cadiz

Downtown Cadiz is set to be taken over by live music, vendors, food trucks and whole lot of ham for the 48th annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival and Trigg County Tourism Director Beth Sumner appeared on WHOP to share the details.

The festival officially kicks off on Friday, October 11, but Sumner says some of the festivities get underway on Thursday, October 10. On Thursday at 6 a.m. there will be a kick off breakfast at the Lexie Bush Convention Center along with a 4-H ham auction.

On Thursday, Main Street in downtown will close to vehicle traffic at noon and carnival rides at West Cadiz Park open to the public at 4 p.m. Festival opening ceremonies kick off at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Renaissance Stage and at that time, carnival rides continue; the petting zoo opens and folks can start shopping at the vendor market.

Friday and Saturday will also feature live music. The Tim Lynch Band performs at 6 p.m. and Kayley Green performs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Then, Tyson Leamon performs at 6 p.m. and the Charlie Daniels Legacy Band performs at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The festival will feature over 200 vendors and this year, Sumner says they will have a new addition called Locals Lane which will spotlight new local businesses.

One of the festival’s staples is cooking Kentucky’s largest ham biscuit, and Sumner says since they are nearing the 50th anniversary of the festival they may want to make their largest ham biscuit yet.

The ham biscuit will be cooked Saturday morning and served at 11 a.m. on at the Bank of Cadiz parking lot.

On Sunday, October 13 the festivities conclude, carnival rides, games and food booths will be open from noon to around 5 p.m. A full list of festival events is available at hamfestival.com.
