Judge Executive talks Jennie Stuart, Deaconess merger possibility

There’s been plenty of buzz and questions in the community recently, concerning a letter of intent signed between Jennie Stuart Health and Deaconess Health, to potentially join.

That process still has some way to go, and Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam urged patience and thoroughness to the Board of Trustees. He says he has seen the financials for Jennie Stuart and knows they’re in good health, so he would like to see a third-party possibly come in to examine the options before moving forward with the deal.

He says it’s understandable that people are concerned—they want to be reassured that their healthcare needs will still be met right here in Hopkinsville.

Judge Gilliam says serving on the Board of Trustees for Jennie Stuart is not an easy position—it often involves decisions that affect the community as a whole.

The letter of intent declares that both Jennie Stuart Health and Deaconess Health have begun a process of due diligence that allows both health systems the chance to evaluate each other and finalize any specific details of an agreement that would join the two, with the intent to grow medical services for Hopkinsville and surrounding areas.
