University Heights Academy’s volleyball team advanced to the Gold Bracket before being eliminated Saturday in the Quad State Volleyball Tournament at Paducah.

The Lady Blazers opened the tournament Friday night with a 2-0 win over Ohio County (27-25, 25-18) before falling to John Hardin (15-25, 25-19, 15-8).

On Saturday, UHA fell to West Jessamine 25-13, 25-8 before the Gold Bracket play began.

“We saw some very advanced volleyball from large schools with much more experienced players,” UHA coach Faye Hendricks said. “Overall, it definitely pushed us into improving.”

McCracken County defeated the Lady Blazers 25-8, 25-8 before Whitesville Trinity held off UHA 25-19, 25-16. In the last Gold Bracket game, Bowling Green defeated UHA 25-8, 25-12.

Due to an injury, the Lady Blazers finished their match with Whitesville Trinity and played the last match against Bowling Green with only eight players.

UHA (5-14) is scheduled to play host to Hopkinsville tonight in a District 8 game.
