United Way kicks off fundraising campaign with a glittering goal and high hopes

The United Way of the Pennyrile has officially kicked off their annual fundraising campaign with a breakfast event Thursday morning, celebrating the theme of Shine Like the Stars.

The Senior Citizens’ Center on West Seventh Street in Hopkinsville as full of supporters, partner agencies and especially campaign cabinet members, as they revealed their pacesetter campaign numbers to get the fundraising efforts off to a strong start.  Campaign Chair Martha Steil was pleased to announce that they’ve already raised $204,904.33.

That’s about 30 percent of their total goal—they’re hoping to raise $700,000 to support their 18 partner agencies in Christian, Todd and Trigg counties. Steil made the announcement Thursday morning, urging everyone to open their hearts to those in need in the community.

Steil also took the time to talk about why she chose the theme “Shine Like the Stars”, saying it’s an ask—asking people to bring hope to others by shining a light in the darkness.

Attendees got to view a video highlighting the impact of the United Way of the Pennyrile in the community through their partner agencies, which includes agencies such as Aaron McNeil House, the Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile, the Christian County Rescue Team, the Hopkinsville Boys and Girls Club, Sanctuary, Inc., the Pennyrile Children’s Advocacy Center, the Meals on Wheels program and more.
