The City of Hopkinsville hosted its inaugural Mayor’s Community Awards reception where citizens were recognized for their positive contributions on Friday.
Five awards were given out recognizing the outstanding contributions of small businesses, volunteers, educators, nonprofits and city employees. Before the winners were announced, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight shard that the evening was about more than awards, but taking a moment to thank those who go above and beyond for their community.
City Administrative Coordinator, Diane Turner introduced each awardee. The Volunteer Award was presented to Christian County Emergency Management Director, Randy Graham for ensuring safety at community events on and off the clock and providing students with emergency preparedness tips.
The City Employee Award was presented to Hopkinsville Fire Marshal, Payton Rogers who played an integral role in launching the Fire Department’s car seat inspection program. Rogers called the award a great honor, but says he would not have gotten it without the support of his fellow firefighters.
The Nonprofit Award was presented to the Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club for supporting local youth through academic scholarships and their Warm the Children initiative. The Small Business Award was presented to Stella’s Soap Co. for working with other small businesses and farmers as well as donating products and gift cards to local charities.
Lastly, the Education Award was presented to Lindsay Walker a teacher for Millbrooke Elementary School. Beyond teaching, Turner shared that Walker is a sponsor for the K-Kids Club which is responsible for doing school and community service projects.
To conclude the reception, Knight congratulated all of the winners.
