Relay For Life kicks off Monday with butterfly release before main event August 16

It’s almost that time again—Christian County Relay For Life returns to the Hopkinsville Sportsplex on August 16, all to raise money to help support those battling cancer.

But before that, they have a new event in store to kick off the festivities—a Butterfly Release is set for Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Christian County Justice Center and Relay Chair Pam Futrell says everyone is welcome to come and watch as they release over 100 butterflies in memory of those who have been lost to cancer.

Relay for Life is an organization that is devoted to helping those fighting cancer and their families navigate those scary waters during their treatment and recovery. Futrell says that can range anywhere from providing rides to treatments, helping with wigs and much more.

All money raised goes right back into helping those in the battle and the majority of the money stays local, helping families in this community.  Futrell says the party kicks off in full on August 16 at the Sportsplex starting at 6 p.m. and teams will be raising money until 11 p.m. if not later.

The theme for this year’s Relay is “Once Upon A Cure” and if you want to donate, or purchase a luminary and get involved in the fundraising effort in the future, you can contact Futrell directly or you can reach out through the Christian County Relay For Life Facebook page.
