First adult spelling bee raises $1,600 to benefit Christian Co. Literacy Council

Hopkinsville’s first adult spelling bee, the Big BEE, was a success last week, with roughly $1,600 raised to benefit the Christian County Literacy Council.

There were 14 contestants to start the competition, but it quickly became fierce, with spellers showing their chops and either advancing and or exiting the bee. Before too long, James Hunter emerged as the first ever, first place winner, followed closely by second-place winner Abby Hess.

Hunter won by correctly spelling the word “globular”.

The endeavor, which was hosted by Visit Hopkinsville at the Hopkinsville Brewing Company and featured a panel of judges and WHOP’s own General Manager Jeff Sisk as pronouncer, raised $1,600 for the Christian County Literacy Council.
