New Salvation Army Lieutenants spotlight the nonprofit’s services

In June, the community welcomed Brittney and David Donegan the new Lieutenants of the Hopkinsville Salvation Army. The pair along with Alisa Barton from the nonprofit, appeared at Thursday’s Kiwanis Club meeting to introduce themselves and share what services they offer.

The Donegans come from the Paducah Salvation Army where they have served for three years. Brittney Donegan studied early childhood education at Cumberland University and David Donegan studied finance and economics at Middle Tennessee University before joining the Salvation Army.

Earlier in the year, David Donegan says they received a call telling them they had been appointed to the Hopkinsville Salvation Army. David Donegan says their stay in Hopkinsville could possibly be short, but while they are here the town will be their home and they look forward to having a positive impact on the community.

Barton then shared some of the Salvation Army’s services. Under the Donegans’ leadership, Barton says the nonprofit’s dining room is open after it was closed since the COVID-19 pandemic.

To help those who are homeless, the Salvation Army performs outreach to inform individuals of the nonprofit’s services. Through street outreach, Barton says they have been able to provide housing to homeless individuals through their Rapid Rehousing Program.

In the last three months, Barton says they were able to help 14 families find permanent homes.

Looking toward the future, David Donegan says they are working to open a new cafeteria as well as establish a Rapid Response Unit to provide aid following natural disasters.
