Band camp marks the start of the competitive marching band season

The Christian County and Hopkinsville High School Band programs are gearing up for their marching season, while welcoming new members to their staff.

Citizens near the high schools will hear the repetitive sounds of the metronome as students learn their drills and get new music under their belts—but before too long, that will bring with the sounds of horns blaring and drums pounding. Superintendent Chris Bentzel says those programs are both very successful and those students work incredibly hard to achieve greatness.

The Chrisitan County High School Band program is welcoming two new assistant band directors to help out Director of Bands Anthony Darnall—one is Bonnie Cross, a Trenton native and the former Caldwell County Middle School Band Director, who has also served on staff positions with bands across the state, including Hopkinsville, Trigg County, Murray and Muhlenberg County schools.

Nathaniel Nash also joins the CCHS Band as assistant director, coming from Franklin-Simpson High School system where he was the band director from 2016 until 2021.

Both Hopkinsville and Christian County’s bands, from marching to concert to jazz bands, have been raking in the awards and recognitions these past few years, and both programs are looking to make sure that trend continues.
