Josh Tubbs from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) highlighted the work the power provider is doing to support communities within their service region at the Pennyrile Area Development District Board of Directors’ Monday meeting.
Over the course of the TVA’s 91-year history, Tubbs says the power provider has worked toward three missions. The missions include providing reliable power, environmental stewardship and partnering with local power providers to promote economic growth.
Tubbs shared that their economic partnerships tend to focus on education, workforce development, healthcare, food insecurity and housing.
In the past, Tubbs says the TVA partnered with Life Works at Western Kentucky University to provide workforce day training for individuals with Autism to help them transition into the workforce.
Along with workforce training, Tubbs says they have supported robotics programs at schools and have recently partnered with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation to create STEM labs for children. TVA has also recently awarded $3 million in grants to schools in their coverage region through their School Uplift Program.
