Senator Paul talks Ukraine, immigration reform

United States Senator Rand Paul made a stop in Hopkinsville recently, and he discussed numerous topics of interest, including SNAP benefits, the conflict in Ukraine and more.

During a discussion about road projects and possibly getting funding at the federal level, Senator Paul expressed frustration at how long it takes to get something done in Washington D.C. and he says funding for infrastructure is a problem nationwide. He says giving money to causes such as to Ukraine while they combat with Russia, just takes money that’s need here away.

He says there’s a measure out now to reform the H2A bill, which allows for immigrants to come to America to work, that would be a great boon to farmers—but right now its stalled in the overall process of immigration reform.

The senator says he’s pushing to remove certain foods, such as snack items, from the SNAP benefits program, but he thinks it’ll be a sticking point for some legislators.

Senator Paul particularly highlighted the need to reign in government spending, saying he believes the national debt is reaching critical proportions.
