Christian Judge-Executive talks legislative hopes, advocacy

Christian County local government has their sights set on the future, and Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam highlighted some of their goals and efforts recently.

Appearing on WHOP, Judge Gilliam says a recent survey they conducted helped give his administration a good idea of what it is the people want them to focus on, including population growth, housing and infrastructure.  He says they’ve been in Frankfort recently, advocating for local projects to make it into the Road Plan, such as improvements to KY 115.

Also on that list is finishing improvements to the Pennyrile Parkway so it can officially become I-169 and the industrial connector on I-24. Judge Gilliam says they’d also like to maximize the county’s relationship with Fort Campbell, and a good way to do that would be to make military pensions tax exempt in Kentucky.

He says the budget making process is starting to get underway, and they’ll be focused on ways to increase revenue while reducing spending, to be good fiscal stewards of taxpayer money.

Other things that would like to see take place as part of the legislative agenda is advocating for the widening of I-24, promoting changing to the state constitution to allow local alcohol and restaurant sales tax, continued lowering of the state income tax and more.
