Suspected DUI stop results in drug trafficking arrest

After conducting a traffic stop, officers from the Hopkinsville Police Department found 24-year-old Jacob Miller of Hopkinsville to be in possession of multiple controlled substances and two handguns on Tuesday night.

According to a report from police, the responding officer performed the traffic stop on Miller because of the suspicion of him operating his vehicle while under the influence. As they approached the vehicle, the officer reported smelling the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The officer described, Miller as fidgety and asked him to exit the vehicle. After exiting, Miller reported reached into his waistband which led to a struggle with officers to detain him.

Once he was handcuffed, officers allegedly found a plastic bag next to Miller containing what appeared to be M30 pills which may contain carfentanil of fentanyl. Searching Miller, officers reportedly found another plastic bag that appeared to contain methamphetamine, and in his vehicle, officers found two handguns.

Miller was taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, two first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance charges for methamphetamine and carfentanil or fentanyl derivatives, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, using restricted ammo, having no vehicle registration plates and failing to maintain vehicle insurance.
