One arrested following traffic stop, investigation into explosive device

A Sharon Grove woman is facing numerous charges following investigation into an incident at the Royal Arms Apartments Sunday morning that led to discovery of a possible explosive.

According to the Elkton Police Department, officers responded to the apartments around 7 a.m. for a person who was not wanted on the premises—the person left before police arrived in a vehicle belonging to the caller. Officers were able to locate the vehicle on West Main Street a short time later and conducted a traffic stop.

A search of the vehicle reportedly revealed methamphetamine, marijuana, oxycodone and drug paraphernalia—also located was what was believed to be a potential explosive device in the center console.

Out of an abundance of caution, the 52nd Ordnance Group from Fort Campbell was called to dispose of the device, which was later determined to be inert.

Forty-two-year-old Monica Morgan of Sharon Grove was arrested and charged with trafficking in meth, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating on a suspended license, failure to maintain insurance and no registration.

The investigation is ongoing by Officers Jakop Smith and Stayce Player, Deputy Darius Merritt and Sergeant David Hutcheson of the Todd County Sheriffs Office, Todd County Emergency Management, and the 52nd Ordnance Group.
