Fort Campbell gears up to host holiday festivities for military families

With communities in the area hosting holiday festivities, Fort Campbell’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) will host their Holiday Wonderland to spread holiday cheer and provide a sense of community for families that may not be able to go home for the holidays.

The annual Holiday Wonderland is set for Friday and Saturday, and MWR Marketing Director, Regina Maloney says she is excited to host this event as they are offering different festivities such as a holiday market, ugly sweater run, pictures with Santa Claus and more.

Starting on Friday, Maloney says the holiday market will feature over 21 local craft vendors and runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.at the R.F. Sink Library parking lot. Later in the evening a tree lighting ceremony will be hosted in front of the Fort Campbell Garrison Office at T-39 Indiana Ave from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Back at the library, children can get their picture taken with Santa Claus from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.

On Saturday Maloney says their ugly sweater competition and run kicks off at the library parking lot at 9:30 a.m. and advises for those participating in the run to register at campbell.armymwr.com or come early the day of the race to register.

Toward the afternoon on Saturday Maloney says active duty military will be able to get free Christmas trees at their Tress for Troops program from noon to 4 p.m. at the Division Parade Field. However, from noon to 2 p.m. the event will only be open to junior enlisted active military before opening to all active military afterward.

Being a veteran and coming from a military family, Maloney says she is happy that MWR is able to holiday events for the community because it gives those who miss their families a sense of the community and bonding.
