Hopkinsville man charged with burglary

The Hopkinsville Police Department has charged a Hopkinsville man with first-degree burglary following an incident Tuesday afternoon on North Clay Street.

According to the police report, officers were in the area of North Clay Street in an attempt to locate a wanted individual and during the investigation, were informed by a resident that no one should be inside of her apartment. Officers reportedly saw 60-year-old James Mudd of Hopkinsville go in and out of her apartment with use of a key.

The resident told officers she was the only person with a key and Mudd did not have her permission to be there.  Officers knocked on the door and Mudd allegedly answered the door while holding a large butcher’s knife in a defensive manner.

Mudd was disarmed and then taken into custody—he is charged with first-degree burglary.
