Human rights commission shares upcoming Unity Breakfast details

With their 49th annual Unity Breakfast right around the corner, members of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Human Rights Commission highlighted what this year’s breakfast will entail and invited the community to join.

Commission Executive Director Raychel Farmer and Commission board member Nikki Chambers appeared on WHOP on Monday to share what they have in store for this year’s breakfast.

Farmer says the breakfast serves to honor those who are taking on civil rights and volunteer focused work.

The Commission recently announced that there will be panel at this year’s breakfast centering around the theme of “Unarmed Truth and Unconditional Love.” On Monday Farmer and Chambers unveiled that the panel will be youth focused.

Along with the panel, community members will also be recognized and awarded for their work. At the breakfast the Hal and Betye Thurmond Award, Mayor’s Unity Award, Standard Award for Excellence and the Volunteer of the Year Award will be presented.

As of Monday, Farmer says they have around 125 tickets still available for the breakfast, and says tickets can be purchased at eventbrite.com or at the Commission’s office at 715 South Virginia St. The funds raised by the Unity Breakfast will support the Commission’s efforts in the community.

This year’s Unity Breakfast will be on October 26 at 7:30 a.m. at the James E. Bruce Convention Center.
