Sheriff’s Office invites the community to pet adoption event

With local pet rescue agencies seeing an increase in animal intake, Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Miller spoke with WHOP on Wednesday to share the details for their upcoming “Paws and Claws” adoption extravaganza.

The Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Christian County Animal Shelter, Max’s Hope, the Humane Society, Moving Mountains for Mastiffs and Haven 12:10 Animal Sanctuary to bring all of the agencies to one location where those considering to adopt a furry family member can see all of the pets they have available for adoption.

Miller says the goal of this event is to help local pet rescue agencies after hearing about their struggles with housing animals while experiencing animal intake increases.

Along with on-site pet adoptions, the Pet Lodge will be providing free pet nail clipping and the Christian County Animal Shelter will be providing $8 pet microchipping. Attendees can also enter in a raffle to win door prizes and enjoy some music and food truck eats.

Miller says having the pet rescue agencies in one location will also make the adoption process easier for those who want a pet and for those who want to donate to the agencies.

At the Sheriff’s Office, Miller says they often work with pet rescue agencies as a result of receiving calls regarding animals being neglected or abandoned, so they felt driven to help these pets find good homes.

The “Paws and Claws” adoption event is on October 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Christian County Sheriff’s Office parking lot.
