Issues with busing have caused hiccups for Christian County Public Schools this week, and Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they’re working to get the problems addressed.
There’s a bus driver shortage across the nation, but the issues locally right now have been worsened due to a bout of sickness amongst drivers, and Bentzel says they don’t have the back-up drivers they usually had.
Bentzel says he definitely understands parent frustrations when busses or bus routes are cancelled, because it puts them in a tough position, and they’re always looking to hire more bus drivers.
Christian County is the second-largest county by land mass, which means bus drivers in the county are responsible for safely traversing students across many miles. And they do more than just drive morning and afternoon bus routes—they transport students to Gateway Academy, sporting events, band competitions and numerous other events in the afternoons.
Bentzel says they’re working to get the problem alleviated as quickly as possible, and he says he’s sorry for the troubles this is causing everyone in the meantime.
