Quarles sentenced to 25 years in East Fourth St. fatal shooting

Tavaris Quarles, the man who recently entered a guilty plea to his role in the shooting death of Christopher Montrell Mumford, was formally sentenced Wednesday in Christian Circuit Court.

Judge John Atkins detailed the terms of the agreement—Quarles pled guilty to second-degree manslaughter, first-degree wanton endangerment and other charges related to the shooting of Mumford, which come with a recommended sentence of 20 years.

He also pled guilty to trafficking in cocaine on an unrelated case, with that five-year sentence to run consecutively with the others for a total sentence of 25 years in prison. Quarles would become eligible for parole after serving 20 years of the sentence.

The shooting happened in May of last year in the 800 block of East Fourth Street.
