Mediation in the works for complicity to murder suspect

Negotiations are underway in the complicity to murder case against Dekorian Daniel, one of the suspects charged in connection with the fatal shooting death of Adrian Acree.

Daniel is accused of helping plan the killing of Acree, while co-defendant Jaila Sherrod—who is also charged with complicity to murder—allegedly drove Acree to the location on Sharpe Street where Cortez Hairston Jr. would allegedly fire the shots that killed him.

Special prosecutor Zac Greenwell informed the court that there is no prior agreement between Sherrod and the Commonwealth for information, as had been speculated by co-defendant Cortez Hariston Jr. and his attorney, and he would like to try Hairston before setting a trial date for her.

He also thinks it’s possible a resolution can be reached for Daniel and it is unlikely these co-defendants will be tried together, so he would like to set it for mediation. Judge John Atkins set a pretrial hearing for November 29 for Daniel, saying that should be plenty of time to have a mediation.

Hairston, who is charged with murder, is currently set to go to trial on March 18.
