After this year’s Hummingbird Festival was cancelled, the Jeffers Bend Steering Committee is hosting hummingbird activities and much more nature related activities at Saturday’s annual NatureFest.
Linda Wood and Karen Shields from the Jeffers Bend Steering Committee appeared on WHOP on Tuesday to highlight the festivities set to be sprawled across the Jeffers Bend Environmental Center this weekend.
Shields says they have been hosting NatureFest for around 20 years and originally the festival started with around five stations and now they will be hosting around 40 stations for attendees this year.
Along with their normal itinerary, Wood says they will be including activities from the Hummingbird Festival that was cancelled in August as a result of inclement weather.
Beyond the hummingbird activities Wood says there will also be a petting zoo, a butterfly garden, food options, pumpkin painting and much more. Wood says a couple of activities that are their biggest attractions is their soil tunnel and their canoe lake tours.
The soil tunnel is a walk through that allows guests to see all the critters that typically live underground, and Wood says the canoe tour on the lake often times has a long wait line so she says those interested may want to arrive early so they still have time to check out all the other festivities.
The NatureFest will start at 1 p.m. and conclude at around 4:45 p.m. with door prize drawings at the Jeffers Bend Environmental Center at 1170 Metcalfe Lane. Tickets for NatureFest will be sold at the gate and will cost $10 per car and is free to active duty military and first responders.
