Hopkinsville man charged with theft of mail matter

A Hopkinsville man is facing numerous charges after he allegedly stole a package from the front porch of a residence on Clark Avenue.

According to the Hopkinsville Police Department, 35-year-old Deonta Johnson of Hopkinsville was allegedly seen walking onto the property on Clark Avenue that he had been previously trespassed from. He reportedly took a package that was addressed to another person that was sitting near the front door—the act was caught on camera.

Contact was made with Johnson at a North Elm Street residence, and the package was located between a trashcan and a wall. He allegedly admitted to taking it.

He was arrested and charged with theft of mail matter and tampering with physical evidence, both felonies, and third-degree criminal trespassing.
