Mayor J.R. Knight swore in eight new members and five trainees of the Hopkinsville Police Department at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Hopkinsville Police Chief Jason Newby started the meeting by presenting the new members joining the Department’s team to the Council. Newby says the Department is now back to being fully staffed.
Knight thanked Newby for his work restoring law enforcement numbers.
Along with highlighting new staff, Newby awarded two members of law enforcement for their work in the community.
Newby presented Animal Control Officer, Brittany Walker with the Hopkinsville Police Department Chief’s Merit Award for saving two dogs that were reported to be in distress in a swimming pool.
Dispatcher Allison Summers received the Hopkinsville Police Department Life Saving Award after donating one of her kidneys to Christian County Sheriff Deputy Johnny Colon.
Following the Police Department spotlight the Council had a second reading of Ordinance 29 which moves to amend city zoning maps to include properties in Cayce-White Heritage Place and Fenton Addition Subdivisions.
The Council unanimously approved the ordinance.
