Christian Fiscal Court appointed the new interim director of the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter at Tuesday morning’s meeting and heard their monthly report.
Longtime Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace is set to retire at the end of this month, so on Tuesday, magistrates unanimously approved a recommendation to appoint Melissa Goff as interim director. Goff has worked at the Animal Shelter for many years and says Grace taught her everything she knows, so she’s looking to maintain the level of excellence people have come to expect while finding ways to make things better.
Right after her appointment, Interim Director Goff gave the monthly shelter report, saying intakes have definitely increased recently, but they continue to work diligently to get as many animals adopted as possible.
Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam thanked Grace for her years of service and says he knows Goff will do well. He also took a moment to express his desire for the county to host a special event for veterans like the Hometown Hero flags in Trigg County, with more details to come.
In other action, several personnel matters for the animal shelter and the Christian County Jail were approved, along with a resolution concerning a financial lease agreement with the Kentucky Association of Counties to purchase eight vehicles for the Christian County Sheriff’s Department.
