Community run serves to benefit military families during the holidays

To help those in need during the holiday season, the Christian County Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee is hosting Run Rudolph Run to provide toys for Fort Campbell families.

The Committee is partnering with Fortera Credit Union, Blue Star Families, Oak Grove Tourism and the United Services Organization (USO) to host the 5k and 1 mile donation runs on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Oak Grove War Memorial Walking Trail.

Kristi Murtha, the Director of the Military Affairs Committee says she has previously volunteered for the USO Fort Campbell Christmas Giveaway event, but at last year’s giveaway there was a shortage of gifts, according the Military Affairs Committee’s news release.

In response to the reported shortage, the Run Rudolph Run donations will go to support the USO’s Holly Jolly Holiday program hosted later in December which serves to support those away from home for the holidays.

Oak Grove Mayor Jackie Oliver spoke about the run at Tuesday’s Christian County Fiscal Court meeting, sharing how those interested can register for the run.

Participants can register with $15 or an unwrapped toy on day of the run or at the visitoakgroveky.com Run Rudolph Run event tab.
