City of Hopkinsville bids farewell to retiring officials

The City of Hopkinsville bid farewell to several longtime officials Tuesday afternoon, and a reception was held before city council to honor the retirees.

City Clerk Chrissy Fletcher has worked at the city for 27 years and she’s seen a lot of change in that time. She says the office has faced some new challenges in recent times, but they’ve managed to get it done—she’s particularly proud of the work she accomplished in her work in acquiring grant funding to help people living in flood plains.

Longtime City Financial Officer Robert Martin says it doesn’t quite feel real yet, but he will miss the people he has worked with and he’s looking forward to the future.

Tab Brockman served as superintendent of the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department the past eight years and says he hopes they brought some fun to the community, especially with the establishment of the now enormous Summer Salute Festival.

All three, along with outgoing Hopkinsville Police Chief Clayton Sumner and Deputy Chief Michael Seis, who were unable to be present, were presented with Keys to the City by Mayor J.R. Knight.  Mayor Knight says they will all be missed, but he knows they’re leaving their offices in good hands.

As for what awaits them—each of them says they have family, relaxation and community participation in mind as they look towards the future.
