Hopkinsville City Council increases code enforcement fines

The Hopkinsville City Council voted to increase five enforcement fines at Tuesday’s meeting.

The amendment increases the fines for the refusal to collect garbage, noise violations, zoning violations or abandoned vehicles which have more than doubled. Property maintenance violations have also increased but only if the fine is contested.

The ordinance became grounds for discussion because of redacted a clause that served to help those that may not be able to afford to pay their fines. City Council member, Don Marsh says although the clause was redacted the city could still choose to help those who need it.

Fined citizens are granted a period of time to correct the violation if they are able to do so. Executive Director of Community Development Services, Tom Britton says citizens have 10 days to fix the violation or provide a date when they are able to.

Concluding  the meeting, Mayor J.R. Knight signed off on executive orders concerning commission terms.

The newly formed Small Business Commission was appointed the following members, Kristina Dunaway, Charlie Powell, Danielle Renshaw, DeeAnna Sova, Tyler Young, Richie Acevedo, Justin Nash, Andy Naghtin, Greg Perry, Trey Gilliland, Kalleb Greene, Christina Hale and Chair Sarah Whitaker.
