Gov. Beshear talks economic matters, mental health

Gov. Andy Beshear discussed economic expansion, sports betting and mental health at Thursday’s Team Kentucky meeting.

Beshear commended Kentuckians for their work after Kentucky was presented with back-to-back Gold Shovel awards by national site selection magazine Area Development.

The Gold Shovel highlights a state’s investment projects that create new avenues of employment for citizens. Kentucky was awarded with the Gold Shovel in the four to six million population state classification.

Sports betting in Kentucky will kick off in person on Sept. 7 and online on Sept. 28. To oversee and pave the way for sports wagering in Kentucky Beshear signed an executive order to establish a sport wagering advisory council.

Along with focusing on Kentucky’s economic achievements and changes, Beshear highlighted the wellbeing and mental health of Kentuckians after Kentucky was ranked number one for adult mental health by national nonprofit Mental Health America.

Beshear’s next Team Kentucky press conference is set for Thursday, July 20 at 11:30 a.m. central time.
