Parks and Recreation prepare for community events

With the aim to engage the community, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation are working to promote their upcoming summer events.

Three more Hoptown Hose Down events are set for summer with the next one on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at 2nd Street Park. Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Tab Brockman has invited the community to get their sing on at the third annual Hoptown Idol on Friday at 6 p.m. at Founders Square.

Four more finalists will be announced on the day of the competition out of those in the 20 open mic slots that are first come first serve. The winner will receive a $500 prize and a two-hour professional recording session. Along with live singing, Hoptown Idol will have food trucks.

Into the weekend the Top of the Box CrossFit Competition will be on Saturday and Sunday at Planters Bank Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex.

Although it isn’t until a month from now, preparation the Summer Salute is in full swing. Brockman said they are still looking for sponsors for the event and for those interested in sponsoring to call him at 270-887-4290. This year’s Summer Salute will have around 120 booths and is set for August 25 and 26.
