>>Wimbledon Day Two Recap

 

(London)  — The action continues on the grass courts at Wimbledon.  Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz rolled past Jeremy Chardy in straight sets to advance to the second round.  Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie, Quentin Halys and Tomas Martin Etcheverry also collected wins.  The rest of the day’s matches were suspended due to rain.  On the women’s side, defending Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina rallied past American Shelby Rogers in a three-set thriller.  Second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka and sixth-seeded Ons Jabeur also moved on during the rain-shortened day.

 

>>Joey Chestnut Wins Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

 

(Coney Island, NY)  — Joey Chestnut is once again the champion of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.  He won his 16th championship after the event was delayed for more than two hours due to severe weather.  Chestnut chowed down 62 hot dogs in ten minutes.  That’s 14 hot dogs short of his record of 76 that he set in 2021.  On the women’s side, Miki Sudo defended her title by eating 39-and-a-half hot dogs.  The win gave Sudo her ninth at the Nathan’s championships.

 

>>NBA To Implement Flop Penalty In Summer League

 

(New York, NY)  — The NBA is trying to crack down on embellishment.  The league announced on Tuesday that it will be testing out a proposed in-game penalty for flopping during summer league.  A flop, which will be determined by referees during a game, will be penalized by awarding the opposing team one free throw and possession of the ball.  The player who commits the flop will be assessed an unsportsmanlike technical, which will not count toward personal fouls or lead to an ejection.  The NBA defines a flop as “an attempt to either fool referees into calling undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking the referees missed a foul call by exaggerating the effect of contact with an opposing player.”

 

>>Top WR In Class Of 2024 Commits To Texas A&M

 

(College Station, TX)  — The top wide receiver in the Class of 2024 is making his college decision.  Five-star wideout Cameron Coleman has committed to Texas A&M.  ESPN’s eighth-ranked prospect chose Texas A&M over other programs such as Auburn and LSU.  Coleman, who is an Alabama native, becomes the first five-star recruit and the 16th overall member of the Aggies’ 2024 Class.  The wide receiver told ESPN he’d like to play “in an offense where they’re using my skill set.”

 

>>Capitals Extend Martin Fehervary

 

(Washington, DC)  — The Capitals are locking up one of their core young pieces.  On Tuesday, Washington signed defenseman Martin Fehervary to a three-year contract extension.  The deal is worth just over eight-million dollars and has an average annual value of 2.675-million dollars.  The 23-year-old appeared in 67 games last season, recording six goals and 16 points.  He also led the Caps in hits with 217 and tied for second in blocked shots with 128.  Fehervary was taken in the second round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by Washington, and has 34 points in 152 career games.
