Hoppers heavy-run 3rd inning proves to be too much in the win against the Bombers

The Hoppers scored their most runs in a game this season as they took down the Dubois Co. Bombers Sunday night 9-2 inside Colonel Field.

The Hoptown Hoppers were originally set to play a full weekend of tennis but Mother Nature had different plans as the Hoppers’ Friday and Saturday matchups were postponed due to the weather.

The Hoppers Thursday road game against the  Bombers was also postponed making Sunday night the first game for the Hoppers since their Wednesday loss against the Full Count Rhythm.

The Bombers put the first mark on the scoreboard scoring 1 run in the third and another in the second which made it a 2-0 ball game.

The Hoppers then erupted in the 3rd inning scoring seven runs, with four of them coming from a Manuel Villalobos grand-slam.

The Bombers then went scoreless for the rest of the game while the Hoppers tagged two more runs in the 6th inning to make it a 9-2 win.

John Girard was the winning pitcher for the Hoppers and moved to 3-1 on the season.

The Hoppers are now 9-13 on the season and will spend Monday off as they prepare for a Fourth of July showdown on Tuesday when they host the Clarksville WhirlyBirdz at 6:00 PM.

Pregame coverage will begin at 5:45 on NewsRadio 99.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
