The Western Kentucky State Fair officially gets underway this afternoon with shows in the grandstands, tons of food options, rides and events.
The gates open at 5 p.m. and the price to get into the fair has not changed—it’s $3 per ticket, with tickets into the grand events costing a little more depending on the day and event. Fair Board Chair President Brad Hewell says they’ll have a new event in Jump and Run that starts at 7 p.m., where racers will be able to get a little rough as they go around the track.
He says all the rides are back this year in a new lay-out because there are more rides available—including one he’s never seen before.
Hewell says the Petting Zoo is ready to go in the new live-stock pavilion.
Unlimited ride armbands are $20 on the first night of the fair. The fair continues through July 1 and will play host to the usual favorites and new events and attractions, with the 4-H and FFA Swine show kicking off at 9 a.m. Saturday, with Baby and Tiny Tot pageants happening in the air-condition convention center on the fairgrounds, along with the Mrs. and Miss WKSF pageant happening in the afternoon and evening. The Demolition Derby returns the grandstands Saturday as well at 6 p.m. Saturday.
