The Kentucky Community and Technical College System Board of Regents met this past weekend and approved salary increases for staff and to increase tuition at KCTCS colleges.
The board approved a $2,000 base salary increase for regular full-time employees and discussed the initial findings of a system-wide study at a meeting of the Board of Regents on June 15 and 16. KCTCS Interim President Larry Ferguson says raises in the past have been either feast or famine, and this investment in their workforce is vital.
After much discussion, the board also voted to increase the tuition for KCTCS colleges in the 2023-2024 academic year by $4 per credit hour. That brings in-state tuition rates to $186 and $250 for students attending KCTCS from out of state. Ferguson says that shouldn’t be a huge financial burden on their students and it will help institutions meet their rising costs.
In other action, the board approved adoption of the initial recommendations derived from a comprehensive study conducted by the Huron Consulting Group, an external agency that was hired last year to evaluate a broad range of business practices within the system.
The board also took time to recognize outgoing board members and retiring KCTCS staff members—it also recognized Student Regent Brittanie Bogard of Hopkinsville Community College and Student Regent Richard Smith for their service to the board and academic achievements.
