>>Wyndham Clark Wins 2023 US Open

 

(Los Angeles, CA)  — Wyndham Clark is celebrating his first major championship.  Clark finished atop the leaderboard at Los Angeles Country Club at 10 under par to win the US Open.  The 29-year-old earns his second victory in his 137th PGA Tour start, after winning the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship.  Rory McIlroy finished in second place at nine under par.  Scottie Scheffler earned a third place finish at seven under.  Cameron Smith finished in fourth at six under par.  Rickie Fowler, Min Woo Lee and Tommy Fleetwood tied for fifth place at five under.

 

>>USA Beats Canada In CONCACAF Nations League Final

 

(Las Vegas, NV)  — The United States is claiming its second straight CONCACAF Nations League title.  Team USA defeated Canada 2-0 in the final at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.  Chris Richards and Folarin Balogun both found the back of the net in the first half and the U.S. held on for the victory.  The U.S. has beaten Canada in 22 straight home matches dating back to 1957.  In other CONCACAF Nations League action, Mexico beat Panama 1-0 in the third-place game.

 

>>Bob Huggins Resigns After DUI Arrest

 

(Morgantown, WV)  — The head coach of West Virginia men’s basketball is resigning.  Bob Huggins announced on Saturday he’s leaving the school following an arrest heading into the weekend.  Police say the 69-year-old was blocking traffic in Pittsburgh and registered a blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit.  Huggins said, “My recent actions do not represent the values of the University or the leadership in this role…  I am solely responsible for my conduct and sincerely apologize to the university community.”  He was also going to be suspended for the first three games of the season for using a slur when talking about Xavier basketball fans on a Cincinnati radio show two months ago.

 

>>Ryan Tannehill Met With DeAndre Hopkins During Visit

 

(Nashville, TN)  — A key player met with DeAndre Hopkins during his visit with the Titans.  Paul Kuharksy reports Ryan Tannehill was in attendance when the free agent wide receiver came to Nashville on a free agent visit last week.  Tannehill said, “I think he would be a good fit here, but we’ll see what happens moving forward.”  Hopkins left the Patriots without a contract and is going to “take his time” making a decision.

 

>>Nashville SC Beats St. Louis Behind Hany Hatty

 

(Nashville, TN)  — Nashville SC got a hat trick from their star player in a 3-1 win over St. Louis at GEODIS Park.  Hany Mukhtar netted a goal in the 11th-minute and converted a penalty in the second half after St. Louis picked up a red card.  The midfielder found the back of the net in the 75th-minute to complete his hat trick and secure the victory.  Nashville is second in the Eastern Conference with 35 points and will play Montreal on the road this Wednesday.

(Omaha, NE)  — The road to the College World Series title is heating up.  TCU eliminated seventh-seeded Virginia with a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.  The Horned Frogs fended off elimination to keep their hopes alive for the first CWS title in program history.  On Sunday night, second-seeded Florida held off Oral Roberts for a 5-4 victory to advance to the next round of the winner’s bracket.  TCU will now square off against Oral Roberts for a chance to play the Gators for a spot in the College World Series Finals.  The action continues today when eighth-seeded Stanford battles Tennessee in another elimination game.  Top-seeded Wake Forest will play five-seed LSU for a chance to advance in the winner’s bracket.
