Man charged with robbery after taking water department truck

A Hopkinsville man is facing a robbery charge after he allegedly took a Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority truck Thursday.

An arrest citation for 36-year old How’ki Tools of Hopkinsville says officers were dispatched to South Clay and East Seventh Street, where HWEA employees said a man was inside their truck and refused to get out.

He reportedly took a tablet and prescription glasses inside the truck and put them inside his bag before beginning attempts to steal the vehicle.

The report says he took the keys to the vehicle from the pocket of one of the employees and that he drove away, with the employees following him and alerting HPD to his location.

Officers detained Tools at East Ninth and Clay and he reportedly alleged that the HWEA employees and others had been threatening to kill him, with the citation saying he showed signs of being under the influence of a substance.

Tools allegedly admitted to breaking the prescription glasses while driving the truck and a search of his person at the jail allegedly revealed social security cards belonging to other people and mail belonging to his neighbors.

He’s charged with second-degree robbery, criminal mischief, public intoxication, identity theft and possession of stolen mail.
