Pennyroyal Arts Council receives grant, Big Read returns to Hopkinsville

The Pennyroyal Arts Council has once again received a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, which means the Big Read will return to Christian County in the fall.

According to a news release, the Arts Council is one of 62 organizations nationwide that have been selected to receive a Big Read grant for 2023-24—the $20,000 grant will allow for numerous programs and events to take place. The Big Read will be centered around the book “Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude” by Ross Gay.

Executive Director Margaret Prim says, “We are thrilled to receive our 9th NEA Big Read Grant. This book of poetry highlights the earth’s abundance: the fruit, blooms, meals, insects, waters, conversations, trees, embraces, and helping hands. The Big Read partners will engage the community in over thirty activities and programs.”

Since its inception in 2006, the National Endowment for the Arts has funded more than 1,800 NEA Big Read programs, providing more than $25 million to organizations nationwide.
