Kiwanis Soap Box Derby returns to Ruff Park this weekend

The 17th annual Kiwanis Soap Box Derby returns to Ruff Park this weekend where kids will race down the hill in the spirit of competition.

It all begins Friday evening with the traditional dinner for racers, and then the Super Kids race will start the races off proper—then on Saturday, organizer Annie Catron says racing begins bright and early at 8 a.m., with over 40 kids set to take part in the Masters, Super Stock, Stock divisions.

This year people will have the option to follow along with the race brackets online with Derby App, where people can see what races are upcoming and how kids are placing.

There will be food vendors on site and all money raised from the races goes back to help local children in various ways through the Kiwanis Club.

The winners of the derby will go on to race in the National Championship in Akron, Ohio later in the year.
