The attempted murder case against Cody Alire now heads the grand jury, after a preliminary hearing was waived in Christian District Court Friday morning.
Alire is facing numerous charges in relation to a high-speed, multi-county pursuit that took place May 24, including three counts of attempted murder of a police officer, two counts of attempted first-degree assault, 15 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving a stolen firearm, felony receiving stolen property, fleeing or evading police, speeding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
He elected to waive his preliminary hearing Wednesday morning, with Judge Lindsey Adams making sure he knew that only gives up his right to a preliminary hearing.
That case, along with a second that involves Alire being a fugitive from another state, was sent to the grand jury for consideration of indictment.
The Kentucky State Police arrest citation for Alire says the pursuit began in McLean County before continuing through Muhlenberg County and into Christian County, where he allegedly caused another vehicle to wreck. One person in that vehicle was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say Alire fired a gun at police multiple times during the pursuit, including in Hopkinsville before he wrecked out into a utility pole in front of the East Seventh Street Dollar General after Hopkinsville police used a tire deflation device on his car.
