Christian Co. falls to Henderson Co. in the 2nd Region Championship after a wild 11 innings of play

Last night turned out to be one of those games one hears about late at night or the next morning and find themselves upset that they missed it.

In the 2nd Region Championship Henderson Co. hosted and defeated Christian Co. in 11 innings after a walk-off hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning to win 8-7.

Towards the middle of the game in the top of the 6th, it looked like Christian Co. was on the verge of pulling away in the ball game after Elijah Underhill blasted a home run to give Christian Co. a 7-3 lead.

Henderson Co. then scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th and it was not any hits that helped them, but being walked 5 times in the inning and also being hit by a pitch, that assisted their tying effort.

After that both teams ended up going back and forth having multiple chances to score with runners in scoring position, with one being an interference call that took away a run that was scored for Christian Co in the 10th inning. However it wasn’t until the moment of the 11th inning after two base hits, a sac bunt, and a walk loaded up the bases for Henderson Co. set up the final play.

Pitching in the moment for Christian Co. was Eddie Davis and at the plate was Seth Galloway and after a full dance at the plate the 3-2 pitch resulted in a shot around the left shoulder of Galloway to advance the game-winning run.

The last pitch thrown proved to be a bit of a spoiler for what was a great showing of pitching from the eighth grader Davis. He survived a lot of tough situations and pitched out of multiple potential scoring scenarios for Henderson Co.

Head Coach Cole Isom spoke with WHOP after the game and gave a heartfelt message about the loss and the team as a whole.

With the win or go home scenario it turned out to be last game as a Colonel for two seniors.

Isom explained how Brylle Javier has been a great player on and off the field for many years and proved to be a selfless kind of player.

Isom then went on to get choked up a bit as he talked about the deep bond he has made over the years with Elijah Underhill.

He then discussed how he wants this loss to have an effect on the team next season and how he plans to prepare them to come back stronger.

Lastly Coach Isom took the time to thank the Colonel fans for and all those that supported Christian Co. during the championship game and throughout the season.
