Madisonville man charged following investigation into abandoned vehicle

A Madisonville man is facing numerous charges following investigation into an abandoned vehicle in the area of Elk Fork Road and US 68-80 Tuesday.

According to the Elkton Police Department, officers responded to the area for reports of a vehicle that had nearly fallen into a creek and upon arrival, found the Toyota Prius abandoned with the front passenger tire hanging off the embankment to the creek. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the operator.

Roughly an hour later Elkton police responded back to the area for a report of a male subject walking near where the vehicle had been and they located 34-year-old Travis Dorough of Madisonville, who appeared to be manifestly under the influence of some type of drug. Dorough admitted that he had been driving the vehicle that morning.

He was arrested and charged with public intoxication and later transported to the Todd County Detention Center after being medically cleared from Logan Memorial Hospital. On Friday, Elkton PD received information from the Madisonville Police Department that the vehicle located with Dorough had been reported stolen from Madisonville.

Dorough was then additionally charged with felony receiving stolen property.
