School board could put high school project out for bid again at Thursday meeting

When the Christian County School Board meets Thursday night, it will likely approve a measure to again advertise for bids to build a consolidated high school on Fort Campbell Boulevard at Lovers Lane.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel appeared Wednesday morning on WHOP and says cost-cutting measures have been made to the specifications of the building and Alliance Corporation—the district’s construction manager—believes everything is in place to re-bid the project.

The lowest bid came in at just over $200 million last year—well over the budgeted amount—but Bentzel believes changes to the proposal and a process that solicits 25 smaller bids that make up the entire project this time will result in better numbers this time.

Bentzel says this is likely their last shot make it work, but he’s confident in Alliance based on their work with other districts.

The board will also consider renewing contracts with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and Hopkinsville Police Department to provide public safety officers in schools at Thursday night’s meeting.
