Christian Fiscal Court heard a report from the Long Term Recovery Group Tuesday morning and approved several other measures.
Wynn Radford chairs the group that was formed following the December, 2021 tornadoes and says their primary goal is to work with charities and government agencies to meet unmet needs following the disaster.
The group made several recommendations, including making the group permanent to be prepared for future disasters, having a plan to coordinate volunteers and decide where in county government the group operates—among other things.
Magistrate Magaline Ferguson thanked Radford and all of the charities, church groups and agencies who assisted, agreeing with Radford that the Long Term Recovery Group needs to remain in place to be ready when disaster strikes again.
Costs for keeping the group in place would be minimal and it would likely operate under the purview of emergency management.
In other action, magistrates gave Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam approval to sign a grant application that Sheriff Tyler DeArmond says would allow his department to purchase license-plate reading cameras that would be placed on a few cruisers.
Court also approved a $48,000 bid from Altman’s Coatings to repaint the exterior of the Christian County Courthouse.
The Christian County Animal Shelter report shows 341 cats and dogs were brought in and 274 found homes last month.
