Community initiatives to spread education and awareness during Sexual Assault Awareness Month continue, with Sanctuary, Inc. playing host to numerous events.
Executive Director Heather Lancaster and Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator Zirconia Vansauwa appeared on WHOP Tuesday morning, and say they’ve already seen tremendous community participation and energy this month. Vansauwa says this initiative is important, because sexual assault is more common than people realize, and they want to do what they can to support those survivors and prevent more victims.
Lancaster says Sanctuary, Inc. is here to support all victims, giving them a place that is safe to get their lives back on track and access to numerous resources.
The Chalk-the-Walk event starts next week, where people are encouraged to write heartfelt, inspirational messages across the city, where survivors can see them.
The month will wrap up with Denim Day on April 26, where people are asked to wear their jeans as a symbol of solidarity with sexual assault survivors. For more information, follow Sanctuary, Inc. the Facebook.
