TVA seeking public input on proposed transmission system in Hopkinsville

The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking for public input on proposed transmission system improvements to prepare for growth and increase power reliability in Christian and Todd Counties.

According to a news release, TVA plans to invest about $30 million to build a new switching station at the Commerce Park II industrial complex in Hopkinsville and power it by building electric lines from the existing Casky and Paradise-Clarksville transmission lines.  The new lines would total less than eleven miles and be built using primarily double-pole, steel structures on a new 100-foot-wide right of way.  TVA would also obtain about 10 to 12 acres of land to accommodate the new switching station.

TVA says it’s committed to working with area stakeholders during the course of the project and encourages public input. One can learn more about the project by visiting TVA’s website through Monday, May 8 at tva.com/energy/transmissionprojects.  Detailed maps showing the different locations being considered for the proposed transmission lines are available.

The public may also submit comments by contacting TVA’s Gina Howard toll-free at 800-362-4355, by email at newtransline@tva.gov

Officials says TVA has experienced nearly 2.5 percent demand growth from 2020 to 2022, after nearly a decade of flat growth.  TVA reports the region’s population growth is six times higher than the national rate.

TVA is investing $2.8 billion in transmission system improvements across its service area through 2027, to build the energy grid of the future that will continue to provide clean, low-cost, reliable power.
