Hopkinsville City Council made quick work of the agenda at Tuesday’s meeting, approving several municipal and executive orders.
Mayor J.R. Knight urged patience as local agencies work to clean-up from recent severe storms, saying they’re working as quickly as they can manage.
During public comments, a community member expressed frustration at the response concerning clean-up efforts and electricity restoration in their ward, saying they felt their neighborhoods were forgotten. Mayor Knight says he understands, but safety was their top priority by making sure all the down electrical lines were addressed first.
Council approved an executive order unanimously that appoints Jason Newby to serve as Police Chief for the Hopkinsville Police Department, effective April 10. Also approved unanimously was to rename the Second Street Community Center the Kenneth A. Bates Community Center, in honor and memory of the late Christian County Magistrate Kenny Bates, who passed away following an illness in February.
In other action, council approved the deed transference of the L&N Depot from the Christian County-Hopkinsville Development Corporation to the City of Hopkinsville.
Council also approved a municipal order that would name a new playground on Pardue Lane the “Rotary Park at Pardue Lane”, in recognition of the contribution of $100,000 from the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville to construction of the playground.
