Enhanced risk for severe weather Wednesday

While western Kentucky should avoid the worst of the severe weather in the country Tuesday, the region is now under an enhanced risk for severe weather Wednesday.

During the weekly conference call Monday morning, meteorologist Sean Poulos with the National Weather Service in Paducah said Friday night’s severe thunderstorm with winds as high as 90 mph intensified so quickly that the damage was caused downtown before a warning was issued for the cell.

The weather service has been monitoring the chance for more severe weather this week and Poulos says it’s looking like the highest chance for damaging winds and tornadoes Tuesday night will be in southeast Missouri.

The entire area has now been upgraded to a enhanced risk for severe weather Wednesday, with damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado possible.

The long-range outlook shows next week with normal temperatures and less than average precipitation.
